The 12-year-old Orthotic

This orthotic was worn every day for 12 years. The base shell was still perfect but the leather top cover eventually gave up. After recovering and some refurbishment, the orthotic was restored to it’s former glory. Here is the before and after. There was no need to make a new orthotic. Just a simple refurbishment was all that was required.

Hello, I would like to see if my orthotics need remade or if I can refurbish my existing ones? I made them back home in Sydney about 5 years ago. Bruce

Dear Bruce, It is best to come in and meet with the Podiatrist Michelle Champlin to check the prescription is correct. If it is, we can refurbish your orthotics usually within 30 minutes depending on the level of work required. Some materials cannot be refurbishes if any of the base she contains hazardous materials such as carbon fibres. You can always send a photo of your orthotics to check with us how much it will cost to refurbish / replace before coming in to see us.

How often should the orthotic be refurbished? Mine are 3 years old and still look like new. I wear them in my gym shoes only about 3 times a week. I’d like another pair for my work shoes so can you copy them? Cheers, Dave

Dear David, only refurbish if they feel they have lost their supportive or cushioned properties. The more you wear them and the higher the impact the more the orthotics will wear away. We can closely follow the original orthotic prescription. Our materials are the latest technology so most of the materials used are different to what may have been used before or elsewhere. For example, the orthotic base shell now is less than 1mm thick where as the thinnest used to be 3mm thickness and thick plastic. You can send us a photo through WhatsApp 0503553024

My orthotics are black and I would like to change the colour – what colors do you have? Can I also make another pair – we took the cast about 5 years ago. Cheers, Dave

Dear David, we have over 40 colours to choose from. We can easily remove your old orthotic covers and replace with new ones in any colour you wish. Also, we can make another pair for you – our materials have changed to much thinner and lighter base shells making them easier to put into shoes since we made your past pair. Come in for a cast and we will make you another pair with the latest technology that you’ll enjoy to learn about. Best wishes, Dubai Podiatry
