Heel Cracks

In Dubai is very common for men and women to suffer from heel cracks. The skin becomes dry and papery and there is a white powdery appearance to the skin. The skin loses its elasticity and begins to split.

A medical pedicure can remove a lot of the excess skin on the feet and then deep penetrating antifungal gel is placed on the feet. The main cause of heel fissures is a dry fungal infection which actually gets worse the more you moisturise your feet.

I keep getting heel cracks and I have used all different kinds of creams and socks for my feet but it never gets better. I fact I think it’s getting worse. My feet have the white powder that you mention. I think I really have this fungus and can I have an appointment. Cheers, Steve

I have deep cracks in both heels and they split and it is really painful. I wear open back sandals but I put Vaseline every night but it is getting really bad now. Maybe I have this fungus also? Can I have an appointment thanks Mohammed

I need to make an appointment for my husband. His heels are so rough that our bed sheets are getting ruined. He wears socks and shoes every day so I don’t understand how he has such dry heels. Thank you Hind

Dear Hind, He most likely has a deep and dry fungal infection. We advised a medical pedicure to get all of the heel callous off and then anti – fungal treatment to kill the fungus in the skin. As the infection may be very deep we advise to repeat the procedure every 1 skin cycle which is 28 days for 3 times. So he should come and have the callous removed and anti fungal treatment now, again in 4 weeks and again after another 4 weeks. Best wishes, Dubai Podiatry Centre
