Pes Planus (Flat Feet) Treatment

Pes Planus, in its flexible form, can respond very well to expert custom corrective orthotic therapy under the supervision of a qualified Podiatrist (or Orthopaedic Surgeon). Even if the Pes Planus is ‘fixed’ custom orthotics can alleviate pain and symptoms and prevent symptoms from worsening.
It is therefore very important that all children are screened for foot health issues and foot posture whilst still growing, as issues can be identified and generally corrected before they become more serious in later life.
Your Podiatrist may also recommend:
• a range of Achilles and/or calf stretches.
• foot exercises, such as toe curls and heel raises.
• Footwear advice (e.g. specific work shoes for ladies, men or children, according to your diagnosis, foot type and orthotic whether a low heeled court shoe, men’s dress shoes or a neutral cushioned running shoe for example). In some cases, surgery by a specialist orthopaedic surgeon may be advised. These typically involve cerebral palsy (equinovalgus foot), to prevent progression in foot issues such as Charcot foot, or rigid and painful pes planus that has been unresponsive to conservative orthotic therapy.
