Save-A-Trek Blister Prevention Foot Kits

Have you ever had a beautiful hike brought to an early end, or even suffered through pain, due to blistering or redness on your feet? Perhaps it’s a new or ill-fitting pair of hiking boots or trainers, but some way into your hike you start to feel the tell-tale early ‘hot spot’ on your feet, the pre-cursor to a blister.
Hot spots on your feet and then blisters can ruin an otherwise great day out and Dubai Podiatry Centre’s Chief Podiatrist Michelle Champlin has created a special lightweight little pack which will keep your feet in great shape throughout your hike or adventure.

What are hot spots?
A hot spot is a brief window of opportunity to prevent a blister forming. It is at this point that you should apply the specially shaped fleecy pads in the pack to the area on your skin to prevent it going further into a blister. The key is to prevent and a hot spot is your warning – you will feel an area of ‘heat’ and redness. Stop, take off your hiking boots and socks, and cover the area with the corresponding pad. We have three specially shaped pads in the pack shaped for common hot spot areas – toes, heels and forefoot.
What should I do when I feel a ‘hot spot’ developing?
As soon as you feel a hot spot developing, don’t walk even another 10 steps. It only takes two minutes to pause, remove socks and shoes and simply peel off the backing to the shaped pad and apply. It’s extremely important to stop at the very earliest warning sign – if you leave it till the area starts to sting, then you’ll already be developing a blister. The fleecy pad is extremely strong, flexible, medical grade cushioning and will not shift underfoot or wrinkle, no need for scissors or taping, the pads make taking care of your feet in the field easy and fast. The fleecy web pads have been successfully trialled in a range of conditions from Nepal treks to participants in the extreme ultra-marathon, the Marathon De Sables, where sand chafing on feet is a main cause of problems.
